28th September 2008

Just to remind you that on Sunday 28th September we will be making banners to hang in Church on Harvest Sunday, 5th October.  This is an occasion where the more hands we have the better it will be to get the job done, so please try to attend.

Harvest Sunday 5th October - could you please meet in the Lang Hall on this Sunday at 10.45am so that we can enter the Church together and hand over our harvest gifts.  We will be singing two songs - we will practice these while we make our banners.

Here are the dates up to the end of the year.  More information about these will follow:

September 28th - Banner making.

October 5th - Harvest - meet in the Lang Hall at 10.45am.

November 16th - Normal Sunday.

November 23rd - Normal Sunday.

November 30th - Gift Service.  It's a wee bit earlier this year.  If we could meet in the Lang Hall at 10.45am so that we can enter the Church together and hand over our gifts.

December 7th - Normal Sunday.

December 14th - Normal Sunday, although we will be rehearsing for our nativity play and checking costume sizes for everyone.  We (hopefully) will have learned all the songs and lines by this time.  We will also have the Christmas party today straight after Sunday School.  Invitation to follow with times and details.

December 21st - Christmas Nativity - could everyone meet in the Lang Hall, giving the staff and, of course, yourselves, enough time to get ready.

We will be starting rehearsals soon, so could all the people who have already been asked please meet me after our banner making so that they can be given scripts, readings, etc.  We will meet most Sundays from now on as we have found that the more practice the children get, the more confident they are and the more comfortable they feel when the actual day arrives.

Your child is always welcome.  If you have a problem please don't hesitate to speak to me or a member of staff at any time or phone on 01505 813250.  We also appreciate your input if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Start of Session - August 2008

We are putting together an action-packed time; looking at different things to do and inviting interesting people along to speak to you.  Some of you will be changing classes; meeting new and old friends again it will be great fun.

You need to come to make it work and we miss you when you're not there.  Why don't you bring a friend along and let them see what a cool place church can be.

May-June 2008

This is the last newsletter of this session.  It won't be long until the end of the Sunday School session, so I'm hoping for a good attendance till then, if you can make a special effort that would be great.  We will be practicing of the Promotion service and we have a few things happening that would be greatly helped by your attendance thank you.  Here are some dates for your diary:

May 25th - Normal Sunday - We will start rehearsing for the Promotion service.  We will be singing the songs that we have done during the year, so we just need a practice really, with one new song to learn with a different twist.

June 1st - We will be having a visitor from Christian Aid.  Margaret Train will be coming along to talk to us and we'll have a short practice afterwards.

June 8th - Baptism - We will have a full rehearsal.

June 15th - Promotion Service - could we meet in the McLaughlin Hall please at 10.45am, as we will be entering Church together.  The Lang Hall will be set out for the lunch.  Talking of the lunch, it takes place right after the service.  Everyone and their families are invited.  For safety reasons (hot tea/coffee etc) children and their families will be in the Lang Hall and after lunch we will go through to the main hall as we have been asked to sing.  We will just sing what we had performed in Church earlier.  (We are the entertainment) so I ask if you could possibly stay for lunch and the singing it will make for a better sound.

Andrew Napier (our accompanist) will not be able to stay for the lunch that day, so George will play guitar for us.  One of the new song we will be learning may be accompanied by someone else (wee surprise) with something a wee bit different to do at the service and at the lunch.

I look forward to seeing you all soon.  I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the children for their attendance and enthusiasm.  I would like to wish you and your family a safe and enjoyable summer and we look forward to seeing you at the start of the new session.  Information about that will be sent out nearer the time.

Keep Safe.

Yours,

Janice McCallum

(Sunday School Co-Ordinator)

Easter Sunday - 23rd March.  Go straight into Church with your family (Easter bunny might visit).  Your banners will be in Church, also a balloon tree so you will get a balloon that day too.

Remember to return your information and permission forms as soon as you can.  Also our competition for a name for our newsletter  - at the moment it is a one-horse race as only one entry has been returned.  If you have lost any of these forms I can give you another - just ask, it's not a problem.

Your child is very important to us at Oakshaw Trinity Sunday School.  We are here to help.  If you have a problem do not hesitate to speak to me or a member of staff - or phone 01505 813250.

JANICE McCALLUM

P.S.  I am trying to start a creche.  For this to be possible I need volunteers.  I have a few names already.  If you would be willing to commit to this and go on the rota your help would be very much appreciated.  Just give me your name and a rough idea of your availability.

Letter of thanks from Jacqueline and Pearl

On Sunday 9th February 2008, the Sunday School had the pleasure of the company of a friend of Janice McCallum, Jacqueline and her guide dog Pearl.  The children of the Sunday School enjoyed finding out all about Guide Dogs for the Blind and, of course getting the opportunity to heap lots of love on Pearl - who gratefully soaked up all the patting!

The Sunday School children made a donation to Guide Dogs for the Blind and recently received a letter of thanks from Jacqueline.  To view the letter, click here.

Children's Welcome Rota - January - June 2008

For a number of years, young families have been welcoming the congregation to Early Bird services during the summer.  This has always been popular and the Kirk Session recently decided to extend this to other services throughout the year.

It is hoped that all Sunday School children will take part and a rota for the rest of the Sunday School session is posted below.  On the Sunday where your child is named, I would ask you and your child to be at church around 10.30am.  One or both parents (or a grandparent) should stand with the child to help give out orders of service.  There will, of course, be members of the normal doors teams present too.

If you cannot make the Sunday which has been allocated, then please attempt to swap with someone else on the list.  If this is not possible then please let me know and I will try to find someone to cover that Sunday.

This scheme will operate on a trial basis until June and I would welcome your comments on this matter.  I hope, though, that the trial will operate well and provide a younger friendly welcome to those coming to church.

November - December 2007

Thank you all for your hard work baking for Children in Need.  A grand total of £106.61 was raised.  Well done to all.  The next few weeks will be a busy time at Sunday School, as we have to practice all our songs for the Christmas nativity.  I know it is a busy time of year for everyone, but if you could try and make a special effort to be out most Sundays from now until the Christmas nativity (23rd December), we would really appreciate it.  Hard work always pays off.  It makes for a better performance as you will know the songs and feel more comfortable in what you have to do.  Thank you.

Dates for your diary and information

November 18th - Normal Sunday (learn our songs).

November 25th - Baptism (normal Sunday practice songs).

December 2nd - Communion Sunday - children go straight to Sunday School.

December 9th - Gift Service (Paisley Express Threads).

December 16th - Choir Service & Christmas Party (details to follow).

December 23rd - Christmas Nativity.

Christmas Nativity

Meet at 10.40am in the Lang Hall.  Please try to be prompt as we have to get changed, ready for the service.

Nursery department (girls):  We have new costumes (angels) for the girls.  Could I ask if possible they could wear white tights and a white vest / t-shirt.  The costume is a proper dress and it would look much nicer and a t-shirt or vest would keep them warm.  Your help on the day to get the children ready would be very much appreciated.

Nursery department (boys):  We have new costumes (shepherds) for the boys.  If they could wear a t-shirt and trousers or jeans we can put the costume over this.  It has long sleeves but a t-shirt will keep them warm.  Again, your help on the day to get the children ready would be very much appreciated.

Primary department (girls):  Girls will be dressed as village people (not the YMCA lot!).  Could they please wear a t-shirt?  It doesn't matter if they wear just tights or leggings underneath the costume just to keep warm.

Primary department (boys):  We have new shepherds costumes for all the boys.  Could they wear a t-shirt and jeans or trousers and we will put the costume over this as it has long sleeves and will keep them warm.

Junior.  Village boy/shepherd new costume.  Again, if boys could wear a t-shirt and jeans or trousers we will put the costume over this.

Village girl - if girls could wear a t-shirt and jeans or a skirt.  If possible the t-shirt should be white - it will be better visually.

The children/young people with main parts have already been given instructions on what they will be wearing and if a costume is being supplied, that has been organised.

September - October 2007
